The result of the week has to go to Aftermath E, in the Third Division, who picked up only their second win, 8-2, against Challoner C. Richard Tapp led the way with a maximum whilst Ian Deswarte and Dave Bowyer both won twice. Godalming H also did well sharing the points with Ash C. Tim Boxall, playing up was unbeaten for Godalming whilst Tony Harrison bagged a brace for Ash. Merrow F eased their relegation worries with a 7-3 defeat of Godalming J. Both Ashley Barnes and carole Ingram were undefeated for Merrow. The battle for second spot in the division is hotting up. College Hill D edged past Cody B 6-4 with duos for Paul Stock and Steve Clement for College Hill and Norrie Short and Ken Thompson for Cody. Ash D’s momentum was maintained with a 7-3 defeat of Woking LTC C. Woking’s Mike Frean was the star of the evening with a hatrick but pairs from David Mackinnon, Jackie Rice and Hudson Foley mean the battle for promotion will go to the end of the season.
The battle at the bottom of the Second Division continues to ebb and flow.Cranleigh A inflicted more concern on Bramley D with a 6-4 victory. Bramley’s Steve Cheeseman was unbeaten with Mark Lockyer and Angela Coventry each notching a duo for Cranleigh.Bramley B shared the spoils with Godalming E. Linda Makepeace won all her matches for Bramley with Jason Minoo and Carsten Horne each going home with a pair of wins. Merrow E still sit in second spot after an 8-2 mauling of Burymead D. Simon Dickinson was in excellent form for Merrow with a trio whilst Ce Guo and Paul Farrant each won twice. Aftermath C must surely have doomed their D team with a 9-1 thrashing. James Sellen and Dave Wilson won all three with Martin Strutt only losing out to Dave Thomas.
Cody A will be pleased with their draw against Bramley A. No player was unbeaten in the match with Peter Anthony and Paul Shakespeare winning twice apiece for Cody with this being matched by Nick Gould for Bramley.Godalming D pushed Aftermath B nearer relegation with a resounding 9-1 success. Yawei Wang and Christophe Pietrek each picked up three whilst Danny McGranaghan won twice for the promotion contenders. Challoner B dismissed the other relegation favourites, College Hill B, by the same score, 9-1. Crispian Knight and Maria Taylor-Woodward were both unbeaten with Steve Collins just losing out to Adrian Sharp. Aftermath A easily beat Merrow D 8-2 to establish their mid-table status. Albert Cheung and Neil Harden picked up maximums whilst Steve Pearce won a couple for Aftermath.
All the promotion contenders in the Fourth Division won with Woking LTC D leading the way with a whitewash of their E team. Mervyn Newell, Alex Bolychevsky and Malcolm Hollett tied up the points. College Hill E impressively beat Godalming L. Paul Tanton and Paul Stock secured maximums whilst David Reading only lost out to Ben Tahouri. Bramley E got the better of Cranleigh B with an 8-2 scoreline. David Barraclough was unbeaten for Bramley with Stephen Pinn and gGry Nicholson both losing to Chris Ray. Godalming K remain top with a 7-3 defeat of Emmanuel. Tim Boxall got a hattrick for Godalming with Roger Aspital winning twice as did Clive Mattin for the losers.
