PRESS REPORT GUILDFORD TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE WEEK 15
This week, in the Guildford Table Tennis League, the big news is the selection of local young table tennis star and England ranked junior Danielle Kelly to play for England in the World School Championships in Malta next April..
A major upset, in the Fourth Division, was the defeat of Bramley’s David Barraclough by Qian Huang of Godalming R. In a first class performanceHuang took Barraclough’s one hundred percent record. Ninth placed Godalming also claimed four points from title chasing Bramley.
In the Second Division, yet another twist as ninth placed Godalming F beat their own league leading E side 6-4, Chris King, who is at last realising his full potential, was the architect of this one! Adrian Cretu’s 9 in the fifth win over Jason Minoo, plus a nail biting 10 in the fifth in the doubles, was crucial to the final match score .In an intriguing match Aftermath C beat Bramley B 6-4 to consolidate second place. For once Linda Makepeace was denied three by Dave Harden, the master of spin service, who excelled himself on this occasion with a maximum.
In Division One Ash seem to be walking away with the title hammering a decent Aftermath side 10-0 with the Aldershot side winning all three of the matches going to five. Skipper Paul Myers, Eliot Tilley and Rob Gladstone will be very hard to stop! Steve Day, reporting on the Godalming D v C match,commented on the very talented young players on show with Aidit Ghandi playing up for the C side and the ever improving Charlie Cunningham being denied three by Yawei Wang .In the doubles, with Ross Lingard, Fei Fei Peiplayed the shot of the night in the doubles ending flat on her back still clinching victory at 9 in the fifth. Final score 6-4 for the D’s mainly due to three singles from Lingard.
