This week in the Guildford Table Tennis League produced a major upset in the Intermediate Cup Final when Godalming D dispatched hot favourites Ash A by 5-3. The ever improving Charlie Cunningham won three and the dynamic Jonathan Cannon two to seal an outstanding victory. The crucial match was probably the first when Paul Myers took a two sets lead against Cunningham only to be pegged back to lose in five.
Godalming A clinched the Premier championship with a 9-1 win over Burymead A. Unbeaten all season they now face Burymead B in the Percy Lawes Cup for the double on Tuesday 24th April at the Merrow club.
Division Four produced an unexpected result with ninth placed Godalming N holding table toppers Woking B to a draw-Rob Chatwin and Brain Mitchell got pairs plus the doubles to do the damage.
Division Three, and Emmanuel- without their talisman Shaun Robertson, got an 8-2 result against a good Godalming J side to keep promotion hopes alive Stephen Schofield starred. In an intriguing middle of the table encounter Challoner lost 7-3 to Ash B .James Wyncoll was ‘Man of the Match’ backed up by ex Association Chairman Dave Brown with two for the ‘Out of Towners’ Brian Lunn chipping in a single. Chris Ray replied with a couple. College E and D was a friendly contest with nobody going home pointless -D’s were 6-4 winners.
Godalming E virtually assured the Division Two title with a 9-1 slaughter of Aftermath C whilst other promotion candidates Woking A demolished Bramley C 10-0.
