Guildford Table Tennis League Press Report Week 21
This week in the Guildford Table Tennis League Division Two saw a clash of Bramley teams when the D side markedly improved their position with an 8-2 win over their C side. A feature of the evening was the form of Gary Smith who at last matched the results to his undoubted potential, his three plus the doubles was ably backed up with pairs from Gary Nicholson and David Phillips. Kim Farminer replied with two -Even now, despite previous gloomy predictions the D’s may still avoid the drop. Other Bramley news saw the B side zoom to second place on the back of a 9-1 hammering of Godalming F.
In the Third Division both the top two had setbacks Emmanuel losing 9-1 to a rampant College D-Steve Clement, Peter Caudrey and Robert Klusch were the big hitters on the night- Leaders Aftermath E were held to a draw by College E. In the keen competition for survival in this Division Challoner C and Merrow G drew with Trevor Free getting three singles including two five setters for Merrow. Ken Lemon and Chris Ray replied with two each.
Fourth Division, and two Godalming sides at the lower end of the table did battle The R side came out 6-4 victors over their P side .Vincent Quiambao and Qian Huang scored the points.
Recently Guildford Cadets competed in the National Cadets League at Horsham. Max Flint, Owain Osmond-Gillam, Vincent Quiambao and Mohammed Vahora managed to secure their place in the National Cadet Second Division. For a full report and results visit www.gttl.co.uk or our Facebook Pages.
The Premier game between Godalming A and a decent College A outfit showed the wide gap between top and bottom only one of the matches going to four sets. Meanwhile last season’s Champ’s Burymead B cemented second place with a 9-1 win over middle of the table Godalming B.
