WEEK ELEVEN GUILDFORD TABLE TENNIS PRESS REPORT
This week, in the Guildford Table Tennis League Premier Division, saw the probable end of any challenge to Godalming A’s dominance when they beat Burymead B, their nearest threat, 8-2 with Adam Laws and Frederico Vitero unbeaten. In retrospect the score could have been much closer with Burymead losing three of the four five setters contested. A feature of this seasons success, for Godalming, has been the scintillating form of Vitero who, with Laws, remain unbeaten .Merrow A improved their position with an 8-2 victory over Burymead A with Jason Tendler unsurpassed. A bottom of the table clash saw College A greatly embellish their chances with a 7-3 triumph over Challoner B with Phil Harrison taking the honours on the night.
The Second Division saw Merrow F and Bramley C produce a rather unique scorecard, every match finishing in three sets .Merrow took the plaudits 9-1 with James Selby and Tim Ngyou gaining trios. Kerry East won the single point for Bramley. Godalming E are setting the pace in this Division but were held to a draw by Bramley D who figure seventh – Linda Makepiece doing the damage.
Cody B continue to ‘Boss’ the Fourth Division with a 10-0 result over Godalming P. Two contenders for the title Bramley E and Abinger B fought out a five all draw with David Barraclough getting a customary maximum for Bramley- He heads the averages with one hundred percent.
The Third tier sees four teams covered by three points .Two rivals at the top College E and Emmanuel fought a close battle, 6-4 to the Guildford club. The final result rather hinged on a thrilling five setter doubles won by Stephen Schofield and Keith Brown at deuce. Alan Webb got a spirited maximum for Aftermath E against Godalming H in what must have been another early night this week, all but one match finishing in three- 6-4 to Aftermath, Shula Law got two for Godalming.
Division One’s’ local Derby’, Merrow E v D, was a draw, but rather advantage to the D side who started 16 points adrift of their colleagues.
