GUILDFORD TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE PRESS REPORT WEEK 25

This week, in the Guildford Table Tennis League, saw an amazing result in the Premier Division when eighth placed Challoner A beat Burymead B placed second by 7-3. Newcomer to the area Andy Smith and regular Ross Saxby took part  in some  titanic struggles and were taken to the limit in four of the matches but remained unbeaten in singles and the doubles at evenings end.

The Fourth Division provided yet another surprise score with seventh placed Merrow H taking out top of the table Cody B  7-3. Trevor Free and Max Flint proved unstoppable on the night. With Woking B defeating their D side 10-0 what looked like a walk in the park for champions in waiting Cody seems more problematic-watch this space!    

In a middle of the table Division Two local Derby, between Aftermath C and D, interestingly won 6-4 by the D’s who are four places lower. They took all four of the five setters contested. Paola Sala starred with three singles and the doubles.

In another same club clash Godalming K defeated their J side 8-2 with no less than five matches going the distance. Muhammad Tahia was the ‘Man of the match’ but intriguingly in a family affair Tony Laws beat wife Shula.

Round three of the Junior League competition and the Spin Wizards made a giant stride towards the title with the 5-0 defeat of previously unbeaten Team Vincent. Max Flint and Owain Osman- Gillam were in dominating form but were both given a good fight by Vincent Quiambao.  Farnborough gained their first win in a hard fought battle against J2 by 4-1.Miguel Lopes was unbeaten.

In the annual Handicap Tournament James Wyncoll  of Ash took the Singles title and Kim Phillips and Alan Richards  of the Cody club the Pairs- A full report next week!
