The top news this week, in the Guildford Table Tennis League, was the successes of two local players in the annual Maccabi GB National Table Tennis Championships. Adam Laws won the Men’s Singles and Micky Lang was runners up in the Over 60’s Singles.
In the Premier, and a rematch of last week’s tie between Merrow A and Burymead B. The Percy Laws encounter finished 6-0 to Burymead,, but one week on, and with the same line up, this time for league points, it finished five all- A considerable improvement for Merrow, this thanks to three singles from John Robinson and two from Jason Tendler,
The Fourth Division saw an amazing turnabout in fortunes at the top with Woking B, now four points clear, after taking ten out of luckless Godalming R. In this one Qian Haung was unfortunate to lose two games in closely contested five setters. Cody B’s woes were compounded with a 6-4 reversal against Godalming N, seven places below them. Brian Mitchell did the damage being unbeaten in singles and doubles.
Yet another twist of fortune in Division Two, when leaders Godalming E lost to Merrow F six places below them 6-4 with James Selby supreme-They still have plenty to spare however! Their G side rather surprisingly crushed Bramley B 9-1 to go third, with Mick Stanners and Chris King undefeated.
News from the top of Division Three was that second placed Aftermath E were beaten 6-4 by College Hill D, who significantly improved their position, thanks to a brilliant maximum by Peter Caudrey. Emmanuel went to the top courtesy of an 8-2 victory over Godalming L.
