Two results in the Fourth Division have thrown the division open a little. Cranleigh B got the better of a two-man College Hill E outfit to inflict on them their first defeat. Chris Ray was the unbeaten star for Cranleigh with Peter Norman and Colin Thompson winning their other singles for College Hill. Meanwhile Godalming K were defeating Bramley E 6-4. Tim Boxall was the hattrick hero for Godalming with Bramley’s duo Bob Holmden and David Barraclough notching braces. This gave Woking LTC D the opportunity to take top spot with a whitewash of Godalming N. Malcolm Hollett, Mervyn Newell and Alex Bolychevsky bagged the points for the only remaining unbeaten team in the division. Towards the bottom of the table 13 year old Juliette Moussaire was picking up her first full house when Godalming M beat their L squad 8-2. John Fairweather was also unbeaten for the M team with Alan Turong contributing two wins to their success.
The last remaining unbeaten record went in the Third Division when Cody B overcame Woking LTC C 7-3. Mike Frean won all Woking’s points with Norrie Short, Mick Strode and Ken Thompson all winning twice for Cody. This allowed Godalming G to go to the top of the table after a whitewash of their H team. James Wyncoll, Hugh McKee and Paul Rumble inflicted the damage.Ash D played both their youngsters with 13 year old Hudson Foley recording his first maximum in the Guildford League in a 9-1 win over a two-man Abinger. Jackie Rice was unbeaten for Ash with Ben Fereday losing out to Jim Faulkner.
A major surprise in the Premier Division with Godalming B edging past Burymead B. Chris Bush lost his unbeaten record losing not once but twice to Rory Scott and Alex Forshaw. Scott completed trebles in a 6-4 success that augurs well for the league’s tournament later in the season. It was a good week for the Godalming club with the C team bagging an 8-2 success over Challoner A. Jiri Rambousek was unbeaten with Alan Hoyle and Fei Fei Pei each only losing to Anthony Johnson. Merrow a and Godalming A shared the points with Rambousek guesting and getting a full house. John Robinson and Jason Tendler each won twice for Merrow.
In the First Division Challoner B stamped their authority on Ash A with a narrow 6-4 win. Maria Taylor-Woodward won her three with Crispian Knight winning twice for the likely champions of this division. Ash B will be pleased with their 7-3 win over Merrow D. Martin Gilbey picked up a trio whilst Mike Levey and Ian Saxby both just lost to Scott Ayers. Woking LTC A achieved a welcome win, 7-3, over College Hill B which consigns the Brook outfit to the bottom of the table. John Koenigsberger was unbeaten for Woking with Kevin Bown winning twice as did Adrian Sharp for the losers.
Yet again the bottom of the Second Division is going to be very tight. Aftermath D is being cast adrift not helped by being whitewashed by Godalming E for whom Carsten Horne, Pavlina Polokova and Jason Minoo grabbed the points. The six teams above Aftermath are now separated by just three points. So Burymead D’s 8-2 win over Woking LTC B took on massive proportions and propelled them to the middle of the table. Jack Harrington was unbeaten for Burymead with Richard Green and Tony Bartlett bagging braces. Likewise Cranleigh A’s 7-3 success against Bramley B may be highly significant. Angela Coventry was the unbeaten Cranleigh star with Mark Lockyer winning a duo matched by Bill Willson for Bramley.
