Week 4 Table Tennis Report
FOR INCLUSION IN SURREY ADVERTISER
This week in the Guildford Table Tennis League the spotlight falls on the College Hill club. The Haslemere outfit is one of the oldest and well run clubs in the Association.
With their A side struggling in the Premier the B side took second place in the First Division with three consecutive 6-4 wins. The regular team of Adi Mitchell, Tim O’Reilly and Adrian Sharp is a good solid team likely to finish high in this Division.
The Third tier saw the E Side move to pole position crushing Godalming L 9-1 with Peter Caudrey, Colin Thompson and Peter Norman taking full advantage of home venue. Louise Newman gained the single point for Godalming. The D side eased into fourth place with a five all draw with Godalming K-it is difficult to see this side mounting a serious challenge with no less than nine named players in the team-Muhammed Tahia got three for the Christ College side. In this division Godalming J lost the opportunity to go top losing 6-4 to Aftermath E with all-rounder Alan Webb taking three for the Park Barn side.
In Division Four Woking D moved to the top with an 8-2 victory over Godalming N with Aron Jordan taking a trio backed up by solid performances from Alan Edwards and Slavko Ivanovic.
In the Second Division leaders Aftermath C hit a hard rock in the form of the Coventry family from Cranleigh, Pete and Angela, losing 6-4 although Angela was denied a max by Martin Strutt at 9 in the fifth. In a later match they redeemed themselves somewhat with an 8-2 result over Godalming F.- Dave Wilson got all three singles.
Merrow A went to the top of the Premier with a 9-1 result over Challanor A. It is good to see Martin Townshend in such good form taking the scalp of Robert Lemon in the opening match. Charlie Cunningham was promoted to the top level for Godalming B and, coming from behind, defeated Burymead ace Ramesh Bahlla in a five set thriller.
