FOR INCLUSION IN SURREY ADVERTISER
PRESS REPORT WEEK SIX
Match of the week in the Guildford Table-Tennis League, and a real upset, was the 6-4 defeat of Premier Division pace setters Merrow A by their B side. Architect of the victory was Richard Seymour who turned in a sparkling performance- like a vintage wine he gets better with age! His three with the doubles, coupled with two from Graham Faulkner, which included a last gasp 11 in the fifth win against Jason Tendler, clinched a fantastic win for the “stiffs”
The Godalming A juggernaut continued with a 9-1 drubbing of their B side. Rory Scott took the point for the losers. They followed this up with a 10-0 against Challoner, who included in their line up the considerable talents of Ross Saxby and Anthony Johnson.
A late Vets Cup result saw Godalming E ease past Challenor B. A feature of this match was a maximum by Carsten Horne who took out Premier stalwarts Trevor Spraggs and Steve Collins .Jason Minoo and Tony Laws weighed in to get a 5-2 result for the Godalming club.
The First Division saw a confident Geoff Nevitt take three for Bramley A in a 6-4 win away to College Hill C. Three matches went to five all won by the Haslemere club. For the losers Derek Hubbard got a pair. In the same division Abinger A were put to the sword by a rampant Aftermath A side 10-0. Steve Cheek, Trevor Sanders and Bill Matlock took the honours. College Hill B got a nasty reality call, after recent successes, losing 9-1 to Ash A, but it was a really great scrap with the ‘Hill’ losing no less than four matches in five two at deuce. Paul Myers, Eliot Tilley and Ben Fereday did the business with Adrian Sharp replying with a single.
In Division Two Cranleigh took nine points out of Godalming F to consolidate their position as leaders, but hot on their heels are the Godalming E side who scored, what on paper, was an unlikely looking whitewash of Bramley D. Its early days yet but the title could well lie between them and Aftermath C who were without a game this week.
