The Open Day held by the association to commemorate its 75th Anniversary was a great success. Despite the inclement weather many newcomers to the sport came through the doors where they were greeted by an array of regular league players. In mid-afternoon the Hall was full with all 12 tables in use plus the robot. The event is likely to be repeated in the future. All players are reminded that the updated history of the association can be purchased together with specially designed shirts.
Meanwhile back in the league, in the Third Division, there was one of those unexplainable results. Aftermath E entertained Cranleigh A. Before the match Aftermath had lost all their matches and Cranleigh had won all theirs. The expected hammering did not occur though and Aftermath secured a very creditable draw. Peter Millie won all his matches inflicting the first defeat of the season on Mark Lockyer who won his other two as did Angela Coventry. Abinger suffered two defeats 8-2 against College Hill C and 6-4 when Merrow J were the opponents. Keith Sutton won three out of six for Abinger but he could not get the better of Mike Caudrey and Noel Fairbairn from College Hill and Scott Gotham of Merrow all of whom were unbeaten.
In the Fourth Division Burymead E notched up their first win inflicting an 8-2 defeat on Bramley F. Mike Dray and Eddie Hounslow were unbeaten. Bramley E just maintained their 100% record with a 6-4 win over Cranleigh C. David Barraclough was unbeaten for Bramley with Bob Holmden only losing his 100% record to Chris Ray.
Bramley B, in the Second Division, have struggled so far but they notched up their first win, 8-2, against two-person Ash B. Joe Melchionno and Linda Makepeace were unbeaten for Bramley. Merrow H picked up a good 7-3 win over Bramley D. Chris Mattock, Simon Dickinson and Ashley Barnes each won twice as did Geoff Nevitt for Bramley.
College Hill A, in the First Division, did their B team-mates a great favour with a 6-4 win over Bramley A. It was College Hill’s first win of the season and Graham Nutting, guesting from the B team, notched a hat-tick whilst Andy Clegg won twice as did Peter Palmer for the losers. The College Hill B team have now eased into second spot thanks to a 9-1 hammering of Merrow F. Phil Harrison and Adrian Sharp were unbeaten whilst Nutting won twice. Top spot is retained by Aftermath A after a draw with Woking LTC A. Simon Turner picked up a brace for Aftermath and this was matched by John & Daniel Koenigsberger for Woking.
