Already the winners of all five divisions appear clear so this week we focus on the bottom of the divisions and the relegation battles. At the bottom of the Premier Division Broadmoor earned a very creditable draw with unbeaten Merrow A. No player was unbeaten with braces for Mark Handcock and Clive Banham, from Broadmoor and their merrow opponents Martin Townshend and Koray Ozcan. Godalming B suffered a 7-3 reverse against their A team. Michael Chan was unbeaten for the A team with Fei Fei Pei notching a pair, also for the A team.
The tightest relegation battle is at the bottom of the First Division. Godalming C suffered a narrow 6-4 defeat against their D team who had Ashish Jaiswal unbeaten and Tony Harrild also secured a couple for the D team, this being matched by Yawei Wang for Godalming. Both the Woking teams are in the battle at the bottom although the B team will be heartened by a 6-4 win over Bramley A. Kevin Bown secured a maximum for Woking with Ron Stracey picking up a couple for Bramley in one of those rare matches where everybody wins. The Woking A team did not fare as well, suffering a 7-3 reverse against Challoner C for whom Roland Mclellan was unbeaten and Martin Rozario tasted success twice. John Koenigsberger notched a couple for Woking.
The bottom of the Second Division is equally congested and two of the likeliest candidates for the drop, Bramley C and Allianz, shared the points. Clayton Green was on fine form for Allianz with a full house whilst team-mate Peter Chasmer won twice which was matched by Steve Cheeseman for Bramley. Cranleigh A will not be happy with an 8-2 defeat against Bramley D for whom Geoff Nevitt won all three whilst the ladies in the match, Kim Farminer and Kerry East for Bramley and Angela Coventry for Cranleigh picked up braces.
At the bottom of the Third Division Ash B have dropped into the bottom two after an 8-2 loss against Bramley E. Bob Holmden and Paul Kim both picked up trios for Bramley. Godalming F are also in the thick of the relegation battle and they lost to their G team, 7-3. Peter Cousins was unbeaten for the G team with team-mate Jessica Monis notching a couple. Fred Florance won a couple for the F team.
There is, of course, no relegation from the Fourth Division but the top of the table suggests a battle between the two Woking sides for second spot. The D team moved into contention with a draw against Cranleigh B and a 9-1 trouncing of a two-player Godalming H. In the Cranleigh match Chris ray was unbeaten for Cranleigh with Alexey Kolosov and Mervyn Newell bagging pairs for Woking. In the Godalming encounter Kolosov and Malcolm Hollett were unbeaten.
