The second semi-final in the Last Two Cup has been decided with Godalming H coming through 5-3 againat Merrow F. Godalming had a mixed team and it was the non H team members who won the match. James Wyncoll picked up a full house whilst Tim Boxall won his two matches.
In the semi-final of the Veteran’s Cup Burymead eased through 5-1 against Broadmoor. Richard Tanner and Gordon Holmes were unbeaten for Burymead with Phil Snelson only losing out to Mark Handcock.
A massive result in the Fourth Division with Bramley E thrashing College Hill E 8-2. Gary Nicholson was unbeaten for Bramley with Bob Holmden and Stephen Pinn only losing out to Peter Norman. Woking LTC D has eased to the top of the table after a convincing 8-2 success against Cranleigh B. Malcolm Hollett picked up a trio for Woking but Cranleigh’s Chris Ray beat both Mervyn Newell and Sue Holder to grab Cranleigh’s points. Emmanuel shared the points with Godalming M with, as expected, Godalming’s Chris Kelly unbeaten. Clive Mattin and Keith Brown both bagged braces for Emmanuel.
In the Premier Division, champions elect, Burymead B got the better of Merrow C 7-3 but not Andy Mudie who won all Merrow’s points apparently playing in flip flops and Bermuda shorts. Merrow A is beginning to rise up the table helped by a 9-1 mauling of College Hill A. Richard Seymour and John Robinson were unbeaten with Phil Harrison getting College Hill’s only points, against Mike Fisher.
Godalming F continue to strive for the runners-up spot in the Second Division but they will be disappointed with a draw against their E team. Carsten Horne, for the E team, won all his games with Gordon Grover and James Wyncoll each winning twice for the F team. Bramley C cemented their spot at the top of the table with an 8-2 win over Aftermath C. Geoff Nevitt and Kerry East each notched up trios. Burymead D will be very concerned over relegation after another heavy defeat, 8-2 against Woking LTC B. Brian Hartles secured a maximum for Woking with Mike Glen and Kevin Barkham only succumbing to Jack Harrington who continues to defy the years. Cranleigh A shared the points against two-man outfit Woking LTC B. Barkham was, though, unbeaten for Woking.
In the Third Division Challoner C edged a tight match, 6-4, against Abinger with both Tom Taylor-Woodward and Ben Ward notching full houses.
In the First Division Ash B won the mid-table encounter with Bramley A. Martin Gilbey was the Ash hero with a full house whilst Alan Gess picked up a duo as did Peter Palmer for Bramley.
Nominations for the The John Oakley Trophy, awarded for contributions to the association and the Peter Edwards Sportsperson Award need to be with the secretary by the end of March. Entries for the closed tournament over the weekend of April 13th and 14th need to be in as soon as possible. All trophies from last season need to be returned to the Centre by the end of the season.
