The incredible battle at the top of the Premier Division is unlikely to be repeated this season judging by the first encounter between Burymead B and Godalming A this season. Burymead trounced the champions 8-2 with Matt Pernet and newcomer, Chris Bush, proving unbeatable. Godalming B, having their second season in this division, has started with a whitewash of Aftermath A. Sarah Horsnell, Guy Chan and Keith Falconer picked up the wins.
In the Third Division there has been mixed success for Abinger. An 8-2 loss against Ash B for whom Dave Bentall won all three with Margaret Thornton and Tony Harrison notching braces was followed up with a 9-1 thrashing of Ash C. It might well have been a whitewash but Louise Scott was injured and unable to play her final singles. Jim Faulkner and Keith Sutton notched the other wins. Godalming F opened their campaign with a draw against Aftermath E. Gary Adkins with a trio and Richard Tapp with a pair secured the points for Aftermath with Fred Florance picking up a couple for Godalming.
In the Fourth Division Cranleigh B started with an 8-2 win over Bramley F. Chris Ray won all his matches but John Davies and Gerald Stacey both lost out to Assad Minoo.
In the First Division the local derby between Woking LTC A and B resulted in a 7-3 win for the A team. John Koenigsberger picked up a maximum with Owen Poelijoe getting a couple for the A team. Ahmed Matoorian won twice for the B team. Ash A showed they mean business after relegation. A 9-1 win over Merrow E was built on the back of full houses for Paul Myers and Paul Massey with Mike Levey chipping in with a pair. Bramley A matched that score against two-man Godalming C. Peter Palmer and Nick Gould were unbeaten with Ron Stracey losing out to Carsten Horne. Challoner C look stronger this season and started with a 7-3 win over Godalming D. Sally Cimiotto proved unbeatable with Diane Melville and Martin Rozario each losing out to Ashish Jaiswal.
In the Second Division Burymead E started with a 7-3 win over Aftermath D. Gordon Mitchell won all his singles with Jack Harrington tasting success twice which was matched by Dave Thomas for the losers. Two whitewashes at Aftermath. The B team beat Allianz with Frank Roberts, Bill Matlock and newcomer Steve Cheek doing the business. Meanwhile on the adjoining table the C team were getting the better of Cranleigh A. The winning trio here was Dave Wilson, Martin Strutt and Gary Adkins
