Godalming A started their defence of the Percy laws Cup with a convincing 5-1 win over Burymead A. Michael Chan and Alain Choo-Choy were unbeaten with Keith Falconer only losing out to Derek Holman. In the Intermediate Cup Ash A showed they will be one of the favourites by disposing of Cody A 5-2. Paul Myers was unbeaten for Ash in his two sets with John Taylor winning two out of three and Paul Massey the other one. Peter Anthony and Dave Stenning each won one each for Cody. Godalming C disposed of an Aftermath side comprising B and C team players, 5-1. Carsten Horne and Danny McGranaghan were unbeaten for Godalming. In the Lewis Cup Aftermath C and D were drawn against each other with the C team easily getting the best of the evening, 5-1. James Sellen and Martin Strutt were undefeated for the C team with Dave Wilson beating John Setterfield but losing out to Jim Roberts.
In the Last Two Cup Aftermath E played out their match against Cody B and triumphed 7-2. David Harden and Richard Tapp each recorded maximums. Godalming F got the better of Woking LTC D 6-3. Frank Li was a hatrick hero for Godalming with Fred Florance winning twice. Malcolm Hollett won twice for the fourth division outfit. Ash B edged past Godalming G, 5-4, with Clive Mattin the star performer of the evening. Tony Harrison and Margaret Thornton each won once apiece but both lost out to Peter Cousins and Dean Robertson.
In the Veteran’s Cup Merrow A, the perennial winners, got the better of Aftermath X, 6-3. John Robinson and Mike Fisher won all their matches for Merrow.
In the league College Hill C showed they will be a force to be reckoned with in the Third Division by moving to the top of the table with a 9-1 thrashing of Cody B. Mike Caudrey and Steve Clement were unbeaten with Richard Loversidge only losing out to Ken Thompson.
In the Fourth Division Woking LTC C have moved into second spot after a draw with Bramley F and a narrow 6-4 win over their D squad. Mike Glen won five out of six with Sue Holder and Alex Bolychevsky each winning twice. In the Bramley match Assad Minoo was unbeaten for Bramley with Den Hall picking up two successes. Woking D’s points scorers were Alexey Kolosov and Mervyn Newell with a brace each.
