Interesting developments in the First Division. The hot favourites for promotion, Challoner B, came a cropper against College Hill B, 7-3. Andy Clegg and Martin Sharp were unbeaten for College Hill. Then, in the next match, Challoner B inflicted the first defeat on their C team, 7-3. Crispian Knight, Steve Collins and Maria Taylor-Woodward each won twice as did Sally Cimiotti for the C team. Woking LTC A eased into the promotion battle with a 7-3 success against Merrow E. John Koenigsberger and Brian Hartles were both unbeaten for Woking.
In the Second Division Aftermath C lost their unbeaten record in unfortunate circumstances. They succumbed 6-4 to Bramley D but provided the unbeaten player, James Sellen. Geoff Nevitt and Kerry East both won one out of two due to Dave Wilson having to concede two of his matches as he was ill. Aftermath B showed no mercy to their D with a whitewash. Gordon Aplin, Frank Roberts and Bill Matlock gave the B team a commanding lead in the division. Bramley B edged a tight encounter, 6-4, with Burymead D. Linda Makepeace led the way for the Bramley outfit with a trio whilst Bill Willson chipped in with a brace. Richard Green won a pair for Burymead.
In the Third Division College Hill C lost their 100% record with a draw against Abinger. Brian Smithers was unbeaten for College Hill but pairs from Jim Faulkner and Brendan Barley pegged back the promotion favourites. Two other contenders, Aftermath E and Challoner D met with Challoner taking Aftermath’s unbeaten record with a 7-3 win. Tom taylor-Woodward was in imperious form and proved unbeatable. He was ably supported by Jason Gee.
In the Fourth Division Burymead E notched their first win thanks to a 9-1 win over two-man Godalming J. Bob Sacre and Eddie Hounslow were unbeaten with Keith Reed losing out to Saiv Swamy. Woking LTC C moved into top spot thanks to a 9-1 win over Godalming K. Alex Bolychevsky and Mike Glen were unbeaten with Sue Holder winning twice. Godalming H picked up a narrow win, 6-4, against Cranleigh B. David Livingstone, Tony Laws and Sameera Ramakishnan each won twice but no player could get past Chris Ray.
In the Premier Division Burymead B put Challoner A in their place with an 8-2 win. Matt Pernet was unbeaten for Burymead but both Richard Tanner and Michael Hill could not get the better of Rob Lemon. Merrow A have moved into top position and appear, at this stage of the season, to be the main rivals to Burymead B. Merrow’s 8-2 win over Godalming B was secured with maximums from Koray Ozcan and Fredrik Nilsson. Burymead C are determined to be competitive and an 8-2 success over Merrow C was achieved on the back of maximums from Dave Solman and Mark Batt-Rawden.
